Logo nos segundos iniciais, os donos da casa foram para o ataque. Assim, aos 3’, Airton cruzou para Churín, que, frente a frente com o goleiro, não conseguiu finalizar. Em reposta, aos 8’, Pottker chutou forte, porém Ronaldo fechou bem o ângulo e fez a defesa. No minuto seguinte, Bissoli recebeu dentro da área e bateu de primeira, mas mandou por cima da baliza. Aos 21’, depois de vacilo na saída de bola da zaga do Atlético-GO, o Avaí recuperou a posse.
Dessa forma, Eduardo arriscou e quase surpreendeu o arqueiro. O Dragão abriu o placar aos 33’ com um belo gol.
